The Democratic Nationalist Party (DN) was founded by a group of British Patriots, Nationalists who were not very impressed by the range of Nationalist organisations that were available for them too join. In particular we had bad experiences with Parties controlled from the "top down", centrally controlled parties where the activities that local activists can take part in are strictly controlled by National and Regional Party officials. The founders of DN were looking for a flexible party structure where great power is given to the ordinary members to decide items such as Party policy, whether the Party is fielding candidates in local elections in their area and Party responses to local issues.
The founders of the Party included two former BNP activists in Bradford who were told at short notice by BNP, that after a year preparing to stand as local govt. Election candidates in their wards, that BNP was "imposing" new candidates. The two activists both wanted to stand as "Nationalists" not as "Independents" so they worked with others to form DN. The Electoral Commission approved DN as a legitimate Political Party just one week before local govt. election nomination papers had to be submitted. Despite the short time scale DN contested nine wards in Bradford Met, BNP contested eight ! Since then DN has stood a candidate in a by election in Bingley and two Parliamentary Candidates at the 2010 General Election.
You will see from this websites section on Party Policies that this is still a work in progress ! As was stated in the notice of the Partys inaugural AGM (3/8/08) "Some items such as the development of the manifesto, the policies we present to the voters on the doorstep, will be ongoing over several meetings." This means that anyone reading this website who joins the Party can take part in development of Party Policy.
